The Investment and Fund Management Division is one of the divisions established under the Development Sector when the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM) officially began operations on 1 January 2008. However, staffing of the division only commenced in early May 2008.

The establishment of the Investment and Fund Management Division aims to achieve the following objectives:

i. To manage the investment of all Funds under the administration of the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission in accordance with Section 37 of the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission Act 2007;
ii. To administer and manage SKM Trust Funds;
iii. To promote best practices in financial management principles.

To achieve its stated objectives, the Investment and Fund Management Division carries out the following functions:

• Review, formulate, and obtain approval for SKM’s Investment Policies and Guidelines;
• Analyse investment instruments in the market that offer potentially higher returns, subject to the approved Investment Policies and Guidelines;
• Invest surplus funds not required for immediate use, while maintaining adequate liquidity for each Fund;
• Ensure all investment transactions are executed efficiently and in compliance with the approved Investment Policies and Guidelines;
• Maintain accurate and organized records of all transactions and investments;
• Prepare timely and accurate investment reports for various stakeholders;
• Serve as the Secretariat for the SKM Funds Committee;
• Coordinate, monitor, and report on the use of Funds by internal and external stakeholders;
• Identify and assess potential investment opportunities for recommendation to cooperatives.
