DISCLAIMER BY SKM

The Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM) found several statements in the media by DATUK SERI DR. MUSTAPA KAMAL MAULUT which associates Berjasa Party as a Co-operative Party and all co-operative members are members of Berjasa Party, which has caused confusion among the public and co-operative members themselves.

SKM has investigated the validity of his statement and would like to inform that BERJASA PARTI KOPERASI has never registered with SKM and no single person can claim to be a member of an unregistered co-operative. The Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Semalaysia (BERJASA) party is a political party registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS). Therefore, any statements made by him and the entity has nothing to do with co-operatives.

Therefore, SKM would like to remind the public that under section 10B of the Co-operative Societies Act 1993 (Act 502) prohibits any person other than a registered co-operative can use any co-operative name or title or any derivative of these words or to make any representation by any means whatsoever. If convicted can be fined not more than five million Ringgit or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or both and in addition, a daily fine of five thousand Ringgit for each day the offense continues upon conviction.

SKM would like to inform that the action of associating co-operatives with political parties is contrary to the 4th co-operative principle which is AUTONOMY AND INDEPENDENCE.
